Habit of the Month

April: Colorful Cart!

Practice this Habit for the month of April!

Make your cart colorful! Sound odd? Its a really simple habit to boost up the antioxidants and nutritional content for you and your family.

When you are at the grocery store, simply choose vegetables that are of different colors. Next, go to the fruits section and then once again, pick out a variety of colors.

Don\'t forget the dals (lentils) and beans section! You know what to do.. choose different colors. Kidney beans/rajma, white beans, black beans.

Select darker colors. If you are looking at two bundles of grapes, pick the darker bundle. Pick up darker tomatoes, broccoli, yam, lettuce.. have fun... colorful shopping fun!

A good solid breakfast goes a long way in keeping away cravings the rest of the day. Now "solid" does not mean a 3 egg omelet or a plateful of upma or 7 idlis. It means, a cup of milk, one serving of protein, one serving of fruit, one serving of whole grains.

Translating that:

A serving of Protein can be one whole egg or 3 egg whites or 1 cup of yoghurt,

A serving of fruit can be one whole fruit or 1 cup of cut fruit or 1/2 cup fresh fruit juice

A serving of whole grains can be 1 cup of upma or 2 slices of whole grain bread
